New Book Helps Parents Foster Acceptance

Young children are blessed with the ability to openly accept others. When two children meet on the playground, they may notice that their skin tones are different or that they speak different languages. But they do not stigmatize these types of differences. They accept them for what they are: spiritual, physical, ethnic, and cultural qualities that define our individuality and make us each unique.

This innocent acceptance is the key to living in our diverse world. If we all practiced kindness and compassion as children do then we would be one step closer to a peaceful planet. It is for this reason that it is important for parents to encourage their children to celebrate diversity. It is also the reason Sharon Penchina, C.Ht. and Dr. Stuart Hoffman have added Dogs and Bugs go together…really they do! to their I AM a Lovable ME!® series of self-empowerment books for children.

“Ghandi said, ‘If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children,” states Penchina “Teaching kindness and empathy at an early age can be instrumental in promoting peace and harmony in the world.”

Dogs and Bugs go together…really they do! is designed to do just that. It helps parents reinforce and teach the value of embracing diversity. This colorful and imaginative book, follows the I AM a Lovable ME! bug as he explores the diversity of the animal kingdom. On this journey he encounters a number of animal friends who differ from him in many ways, but he finds they are similar too. These similarities are featured in the form of simple affirmations children can repeat and use to develop positive self-esteem. The Lovable ME! bug teaches readers that by learning to love and accept themselves, they also learn to love and accept others.

“I AM a Lovable ME! is a series devoted to teaching children to love and respect themselves as well as others,” says Hoffman. “In the same vein, Dogs and Bugs go together…really they do! teaches children to embrace diversity rather than shy away from it.”

Dogs and Bugs go together…really they do! will be available October 1, 2006 at bookstores nationwide and online or by visiting www.2imaginethis.com .
